your health your all

"My health will dictate how long I stay in the job. That's the only important thing. It is what you have to value most and what you have to protect most because without it you cannot do justice to yourself, your family or whatever you do in life.", Sir Alex Ferguson

do what is right

Leaders must have the conviction to do what is right and not what is popular, even if taking that path may not win them political points.

"Leaders must have the conviction to push through what needs to be done, rather than what is politically expedient or populist," Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore Wong Kan Seng.

give until there's nothing left

"Everyday we get to give the gift of life, it can be painful, it can be terrifying, but in the end it's worth it. Every time. We all have the opportunity to give. Maybe the gifts are not as dramatic as what happens in the operating room, maybe the gift is to try and make a simple apology, maybe it's to understand another person's point of view, maybe it's to hold a secret for a friend. The joy supposedly is in the giving, so when the joy is gone, when the giving starts to feel more like a burden, that's when you stop. But if you're like most people I know, you give till it hurts, and then you give some more."

we can't fight the past but we can learn from it

"Sometimes the past is something you just can't let go of. And sometimes the past is something we'll do anything to forget. And sometimes we learn something new about the past that changes everything we know about the present."

stop thinking about what's gonna happen, focus on what is right in front

"We're all susceptible to it, the dread and anxiety of not knowing what's coming. It's pointless in the end, because all the worrying and the making of plans for things that could or could not happen, it only makes things worse. So walk your dog or take a nap. Just whatever you do, stop worrying. Because the only cure for paranoia is to be here, just as you are."

Five Stages Of Grief

There are five stages of grief. They look different on all of us but there are always five.

  1. Denial: This can't be happening, it just can't!
  2. Anger: This isn't fair! I want to hurt what did this to me!
  3. Bargaining: I would give anything to undo this!
  4. Depression: Why do I even go on?
  5. Acceptance: This has happened, and I can get over it.
However, not everyone goes through all five stages, and not everyone goes through them in that order.

a wedding vow

"Today's the day my life begins. All my life I've been just me. Just a smart mouth kid. Today I become a man. Today I become a husband. Today I become accountable to someone other than myself. Today I become accountable to you. To our future. To all the possibilities that a marriage has to offer. Together, no matter what happens, I'll be ready. For anything. For everything. To take on life, to take on love. To take on possibility and responsibility. Today Izzie Stevens, our life together begins. And I for one can't wait."

Social Capital

Social capital
refers to connections within and between social networks. It shares the core idea "that social networks have value". It is the
collective value of all 'social networks' and the inclinations that arise from these networks to do things for each other.

In simple terms, social capital is the value of your friendships and the amount of support and help you can get should you require.

right the wrong

"As doctors we can't undo our mistakes, and we rarely forgive ourselves for them. But, it's a hazard of the trade.

But, as human beings we can always try to do better. To be better. To right a wrong. Even when it feels irreversible. Of course, I'm sorry doesn't always cut it. Maybe because we use it so many different ways. As a weapon. As an excuse.

But, when we are really sorry, when we use it right. When we mean it. When our actions say what words never can. When we get it right "I'm sorry" is perfect. When we get it right, "I'm sorry" is redemption."

nothing is in vain

"If there's a crisis, you don't freeze, you move forward. You get the rest of us to move forward. Because you've seen worse. You've survived worse, and you know we'll survive too. You say you're all dark and twisty. It's not a flaw, it's a strength. It makes you who you are."

"When you're little, night time is scary because there are monsters hiding right under the bed. When you get older, the monsters, are different... self doubt, loneliness, regret... and though you may be older and wiser, you still find yourself scared of the dark.

Sleep. It's the easiest thing to do. You just... close your eyes. But for so many of us, sleep seems out of our grasp. We want it, but, we don't know how to get it. But once we face our demons, face our fears, and turn to each other for help, night time is not so scary, because we realize, we are not all alone in the dark."

make it right

"It happens, people make mistakes. You know, they sleep with the wrong person and they hide it, but if you ask me, it’s the part that comes after that matters - the part where you make it right.”

the fight

"You didn't invent the contest....The contest is a lion fight. So chin up, put your shoulders back, walk proud, strut a little. Don't lick your wounds. Celebrate. The scars you bear are the sign of a competitor. You're in a lion's fight. Just because you didn't win doesn't mean you don't know how to roar."

Haha i found this pretty funny!

"In the beginning, God created the Heaven and the earth, at least that’s what they say. He created the birds of the air and the beasts of the fields, and he looked at his creation and he saw that it was good.

And then God created man, and it’s been downhill ever since. The story goes on to say that God created man in his own image, but there’s not much proof of that. After all God made the sun and the moon and the stars, and all man makes is trouble.

And when man finds himself in trouble, which is most of the time, he turns to something bigger than himself. To love or faith or religion to make sense of it all."

A hurt shared is halved, a joy shared is doubled

“The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.”

Henri Nouwen

Communication 101

"
Communication
. It's the first thing we really learn in life. Funny thing is, once we grow up, learn our words and really start talking, the harder it becomes to know what to say. Or how to ask for what we really need.

At the end of the day, there are some things you just can't help but talk about. Some things we just don't want to hear. And some things we say because we can't be silent any longer. Some things are more than what you say, they're what you do. Some things you say because there's no other choice. Some things you keep to yourself. And not too often, but every now and then, some things simply speak for themselves."

Meredith Grey, Grey's Anatomy Season 2 Episode 7

"In life only one thing is certain no matter how hard you try, no matter how good your intentions, you are going to make mistakes, you’re going to hurt people, you’re going to get hurt and if you ever want to recover there’s really only one thing you can sayI forgive you.

Forgive and forget. That's what they say. It's good advice, but it's not very practical. When someone hurts us, we want to hurt them back. When someone wrongs us, we want to be right.

Without forgiveness, old scores are never settled...old wounds never heal. And the most we can hope for, is that one day we'll be lucky enough to forget."
