Derek: "I was a jerk. Sometimes boyfriends can be jerks, but it doesn't mean you stop talking to them... You get that I'm saying I'm sorry, right?"
Meredith: "You yelled at me for no reason, and then you walked away. And now you show up here."
Derek: "Of course I showed up. Why wouldn't I? You don't trust me?"
Meredith: "I do."
Derek: "Okay, well, this is how it works. You fight sometimes, and somebody apologizes. From now on, you can expect that I'm gonna show up. Even if I yell. Even if you yell. I'm always gonna show up."
The expected's just the beginning.
The unexpected is what changes our lives.

Don't look back in anger
"In life we are taught that there are seven deadly sins. We all know the big ones: gluttony, pride, lust. But the thing you don't hear much about is anger. Maybe it's because we think anger's not that dangerous, that we can control it. My point is, maybe we don't give anger enough credit. Maybe it can be a lot more dangerous than we think. After all when it comes to destructive behavior, it did make the top seven.
So what makes anger different from the six other deadly sins? It's pretty simple really, you give into a sin like envy or pride and you only hurt yourself. Try lust or coveting and you'll only hurt yourself and probably one or two others. But anger? Anger is the worst. The mother of all sins. Not only can anger drive you over the edge, when it does you can take an awful lot of other people with you."

"A wise man once said you can have anything in life if you will sacrifice everything else for it... what he meant is nothing comes without a price. So before you go into battle, you better decide how much you're willing to lose. Too often, going after what feels good means letting go of what you know is right. And letting someone in means abandoning the walls you've spent a lifetime building.
Of course, the toughest sacrifices are the ones we don't see coming...when we don't have time to come up with a strategy to pick a side or to measure the potential loss. When that happens, when the battle chooses us and not the other way around, that's when the sacrifice can turn out to be more than we can bear."

Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

"Maybe being grateful means recognizing what you have for what it is. Appreciating small victories. Admiring the struggle it takes simply to be human. Maybe we're thankful for the familiar things we know. And maybe we're thankful for the things we'll never know.
At the end of the day, the fact that we have the courage to still be standing is reason enough to celebrate."

The Afters - Beautiful Love (Acoustic)
One of my favorites (okay i have MANY favorites, how ironic but yes many favorites).
This is the acoustic version - pardon the quality because it was a bootleg live video recording. Nevertheless, nice guitar works.
What a beautiful smile

Meredith to Derek:
"I lied. I’m not out of this relationship. I’m in. I’m so in it’s humiliating because here I am begging...
Okay, here it is. Your choice, it's simple. Her or me. And I'm sure she's really great.
But, Derek, I love you. In a really, really big - pretend to like your taste in music, let you eat the last piece of cheesecake, hold a radio over my head outside your window - unfortunate way that makes me hate you love you. So pick me. Choose me. Love me."
Bailey to Derek:
"It’s not hard, it’s only painful. But it’s not hard. You know what to do already. If you didn’t, you wouldn’t be in so much pain."

No one likes to lose control... It's a sign of weakness. Of not being up to the task. And still, there are times when it just gets away from you, when the world stops spinning.. No matter how hard you fight it, you fall and its scary as hell.
Except there's an upside to free falling... It's the chance you give your friends to catch you.

The ugly truth about secrets
"One thing is certain, whatever it is we're trying to hide, we're never ready for when the truth gets naked. That's the problem with secrets... Like misery, they love company. They pile up and up until they take over everything, until you don't have room for anything else. Until you're so full of secrets you feel like you're going to burst.
The thing people forget is how good it can feel when you finally set secrets free. Whether good or bad, at least they're out in the open. Like it or not. And once your secrets are out in the open, you don't have to hide behind them. But the problem with secrets is, even when you think you're in control... You're not."

Show me something, give me a reason to believe
"At the end of the day faith is a funny thing. It turns up when you don't really expect it.
It's like one day you realize that the fairy tale may be slightly different than you dreamed. The castle, well, it may not be a castle. And it's not so important that it's happy ever after, just that it's happy right now.
See once in a while, once in a blue moon, people will surprise you, and once in a while people may even take your breath away."

Seize the day
“A couple of hundred years ago, Benjamin Franklin shared with the world the secret of his success. Never leave that till tomorrow, he said, which you can do today. This is the man who discovered electricity. You think more people would listen to what he had to say.
I don't know why we put things off, but if I had to guess, I'd have to say it has a lot to do with fear. Fear of failure, fear of pain, fear of rejection; sometimes the fear is just of making a decision, because what if you're wrong? What if you're making a mistake you can't undo?
The early bird catches the worm. A stitch in time saves nine. He who hesitates is lost. We can't pretend we hadn't been told. We've all heard the proverbs, heard the philosophers, heard our grandparents warning us about wasted time, heard the damn poets urging us to seize the day.
Still sometimes we have to see for ourselves. We have to make our own mistakes. We have to learn our own lessons. We have to sweep today's possibility under tomorrow's rug until we can't anymore. Until we finally understand for ourselves what Benjamin Franklin meant.
That knowing is better than wondering, that waking is better than sleeping, and that even the biggest failure, even the worst most intractable mistake, beats the hell out of never trying.”

It's all about lines.
It's all about lines. The finish line at the end of residency. Waiting in line for a chance at the operating table. And then there is the most important line. The line separating you from the people you work with. It doesn't help to get too familiar, to make friends.
You need boundaries between you and the rest of the world. Other people are far too messy. It's all about lines. Drawing lines in the sand and praying like hell no one crosses them.
At some point you have to make a decision.
Boundaries don't keep other people out, they fence you in. Life is messy. That's how we're made. So you can waste your life drawing lines or you can live your life crossing them. But there are some lines that are way too dangerous to cross.
Here's what I know, if you're willing to take the chance, the view from the other side is spectacular.

More than just a game
"I can't think of any one reason why I want to be a surgeon, but I can think of 1,000 reasons why I should quit. They make it hard on purpose. There are lives in our hands. There comes a moment when it's more than just a game and you either take that step forward or turn around and walk away. I could quit, but here's the thing... I love the playing field."

Meredith Grey, Grey's Anatomy Season 1 Episode 1
How aptly Meredith put it; what she said can be easily juxtaposed with our daily lives and our walk with God.
- I can't think of any one reason why I want to serve, but i can think of 1,000 reasons why I should quit.
- They (the trials and tribulations) make it hard on purpose.
- There are lives in our hands (the great commission).
- There comes a moment when it's more than just a name or face in the crowd, and you either take that step forward or turn around and walk away.
- I could quit, but here's the thing... I am called into fellowship with Jesus (1 Corinthians 1:9).
Quote: Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (Movie)
"Someone once told me that the power in all relationships lies with whoever cares less, and he was right. But power isn’t happiness, and I think that maybe happiness comes from caring more about people rather than less…"
